The 2011 edition of the Experience Hendrix concert tour, presented by Fender guitars, launches a limited run of dates starting May 20 with an all-star lineup of musical greats paying homage to the abiding genius of Jimi Hendrix.

Much like the last couple of years, the Experience Hendrix Tour 2011 will feature a number of talented musicians performing the timeless music of guitarist Jimi Hendrix. Among those appearing on the road with the tour for one date or another are blues-rock guitarists Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Johnny Lang, and Keb Mo'; rock guitarists Steve Vai, Eric Johnson, and Brad Whitford of Aerosmith; and legendary soul guitarist Ernie Isley.

Anchoring the tour will be Billy Cox, the legendary bassist whose relationship with Jim Hendrix and his music goes back to the early 1960s when the two met while in the US Army’s 101st Airborne Division. The two bonded over their love of music and would later work together backing R&B acts on the “chitlin’ circuit.” They reunited when Cox was recruited to be part of the Jimi Hendrix Band of Gypsys as well as the ultimate iteration of the Jimi Hendrix Experience, performing at such landmark festivals as Woodstock and the Isle of Wight. Cox, who has been part of all previous Experience Hendrix tours, notes, "It's always a great thrill and honor for me to play Jimi's music for audiences now just as it was in the 1960s. The Experience Hendrix tours have shown how timeless this music really is and is just wonderful that we’ve continued to get an infusion of new, very enthusiastic artists to participate and are able to offer the most wide-ranging Jimi Hendrix-related repertoire possible." Ever since Jimi Hendrix's death in 1970, his stature as one of (if not the) greatest and influential rock guitarist of all time has become undisputed. In 2010, Sony Legacy and Experience Hendrix joined together in a worldwide catalog-licensing venture, with their first releases being Valleys of Neptune and West Coast Seattle Boy: The Jimi Hendrix Anthology.

Other guests for the Experience Hendrix Tour 2011 include Robert Randolph, David Hidalgo and Cesar Rosas of Los Lobos, the North Mississippi Allstars, and Living Colour, as well as other special performers. Acting as ringleader for each show is former Band of Gypsies and Jimi Hendrix Experience bassist Billy Cox.
