All three of the bands on the bill – Priest, Queensryche and Rival Sons – are appearing at London’s High Voltage rock festival on Saturday, so this was a chance for Midlands fans to get a taster just days ahead of that.
Californian-based Rival Sons opened with a short but well-received set full of blues rock muscle.
For Judas Priest fans it was a rare chance to see the “Metal Gods” in a more intimate venue than the arenas and festivals they normally play.
Priest’s Epitaph tour is not quite a farewell jaunt after four decades of metal mania but it is intended as the last major world tour the veteran rockers will undertake.
With the full Priest set crammed on to the Civic stage and lead singer Rob Halford prowling around in a bewildering number of metallic costumes, Judas Priest showed they are as brutal, melodic and inventive as ever.
Guitarists Glenn Tipton and new boy Richie Faulkner have clearly bedded in well as a unit, Faulkner acquitting himself well as a hasty replacement for the recently-departed KK Downing.
Thousands of revellers braved the high winds at Knebworth House yesterday (Friday July 8) to pitch their tents for three days of heavy metal.
The 'Big 4' of heavy metal joined forces at the Sonisphere festival in Knebworth, Southern England, to play a cover of Diamond Head's 'Am I Evil' - the first time members of all four groups had performed in England together.
The day had started earlier with Anthrax playing a set, followed by Megadeth which includes ex-Metallica guitarist Dave Mustaine before Slayer took to the stage.
Visitors were not disappointed with the evening’s offerings. Friday heralded the arrival of The Big Four with Anthrax, Megadeth, Slayer and Metallica taking to the stage.
“Do you want it heavy?” barked James Hetfield as Metallica ended the evening with spectacular set of songs from across their 30-year career.
‘The Metallica Family’ were in fine voice singing along to classics such as Enter Sandman, Hit the Lights and Seek and Destroy.
Stand in guitarist Gary Holt of Exodus replaced Jeff Hanneman, who is recovering from a rare flesh eating disease sustained after being bitten by a spider.
Metallica then took to the stage to close the night, opening with 'Hit The Lights', the opening track from their 1983 debut album 'Kill 'em All'.
Their set leaned heavily on material from their early albums, with the band playing only two tracks – 'All Nightmare Long' and 'The Memory Remains' from their last four studio albums.
The band's 18 song performance included five of the eight tracks from their second album, 1984's 'Ride the Lightning', including "For Whom the Bell Tolls' and instrumental 'The Call of Ktulu'.
After closing the main set with their biggest hit, 'Enter Sandman', frontman James Hetfield invited members of the other groups to play 'Am I Evil'.
He said: "Celebrating 30 years of Metallica, we invite Slayer, Anthrax, Megadeth and hopefully someone from Diamond Head to put the cherry on top."
And just when fans thought it couldn’t get any better the band were joined on stage by members of The Big Four for a powerful – and loud – performance.
The set was packed with pyrotechnics that warmed up the crowds and pushed fan’s energy to another level. Fireworks also shot into the sky lighting up the crowds.
The event, as last year's was, has been well organised and there are plenty of staff on hand as well as visible police presence in both the arena and the campsite to reassure festival-goers.
Headlining the Apollo – main stage - tonight will be Biffy Clyro who has promised to tailor their performance especially for the festival crowd.
Tim Butcher, longtime bass tech for Motörhead frontman Ian “Lemmy” Kilmister, broke the news with a July 9 posting on his Facebook page, stating only “RIP Wurzle , Great guitarist an a complete gent .. we will miss you…”. No official statement has been made, but it has been widely reported that Burston died of ventricular fibrillation, caused by cardiomyopathy, better known as heart disease.
Würzel joined Motörhead in 1984 and played with the band for eleven years, appearing on six studio albums plus a smattering of live albums, videos and compilations. Prior to being in Motörhead, the English guitarist cut his chops in the bands Bastard and Warfare. Burston also served in the British Army, earning the nickname Worzel due to his resemblance to the English fictional character Worzel Gummidge. Lemmy reportedly insisted he add the umlaut because it was more “metal.”
After leaving Motörhead, Würzel appeared on albums by several other punk and metal bands, including Splodgenessabounds, WVKEAF and Disgust. He also released an experimental ambient album called “Chill Out or Die” in 1998. More recently, Würzel had started a new band, Leader of Down, who had announced that their debut would be released in 2010, but it never came out.
The band payed tribute to Würzel during their Sonisphere set, saying: "We'd like to dedicate this set and our lives to Würzel.

One of the festival music genre (the primary) the biggest rock in the ground water, the Java Rockin'land (JRL) 2011, scheduled to be held on July 22 to 24 at Carnival Beach, Ancol, Jakarta, more mature with the preparations. Born in Oxford England, Hudson was picked from the thousands of applications via a number of impressive video auditions and live performances, which left the rest of the band in no doubt that they’d found their man. Since the age of 16, Hudson has been building his vocal skills, gigging with bands in the UK underground scene, developing a powerful style with influences which include Bruce Dickinson, Michael Kiske and Sebastian Bach.

Marc's expressive and melodic vocals are sounding phenomenal on the new songs, adding another dimension to the DragonForce sound that I am sure all the fans will love.”
The band has been working on a new album since early 2010, recording in various studios in California, London and the South of France. The follow up to 2008’s hugely successful Ultra Beatdown album will be highly anticipated, with top 10 and top 20 chart positions all over the world and a Grammy Nomination in the United States setting the precedent. With Hudson brought into the fold, the band is enjoying an injection of enthusiasm and hunger that sees DRAGONFORCE prepared to return more focused and determined than ever before.

Sepultura will be issuing their twelfth studio album overall, Kairos, on July 12th. And it has been announced that the Brazilian metal band will be offering fans a treat even sooner.

Rumours Metallica would play a July 14 show in Halifax first surfaced last month.
James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett, Rob Trujillo and Las Ulrich will headline the Rock The Hill festival, which will also feature performances from Matt Mays, Protest The Hero, Seether and Coheed And Cambria on July 14. East coast metalheads can officially start freaking out now. "We anticipate that Rock the Hill 2011 will be the biggest event ever held on the Halifax Garrison Grounds, and with a capacity of 30,000, this show will be a sellout event," MacKay said in the release.
Halifax will be the band’s first North American stop after wrapping up a European tour with a performance in France on July 9. Metallica performs in Quebec on July 16. According to the band’s website, Metallica.ca, the band will follow up that concert with a show in New York City on Sept.14.
Matt Mays, Protest the Hero, Seether and Coheed & Cambria will also be part of the Halifax show.The funding controversy shouldn’t hurt tickets sales, MacKay said.
"The only fear about controversy is hurting the international image of Halifax as a great place to perform. Metallica is in demand around the world and we hope it gets billed as a great thing for this city and province."

Gillan had first turned down the offer to join Sabbath but his manager later convinced him to have a meeting with guitarist Tony Iommi and bassist Geezer Butler. The two Sabs met with Gillan at The Bear public house in Oxford, and Gillan officially joined the band in February 1983. Released in October 1983, “Born Again” was a commercial success. It was the highest-charting Sabbath album in the United Kingdom since 1973’s “Sabbath Bloody Sabbath,” and became an American Top 40 hit. Despite this, it became the first Sabbath release to not have any RIAA certification (gold or platinum) in the U.S.

With a small change in the expected script, the long blond hair of the provocative singer of Megadeth, Dave Mustaine, recovered from her fainting in Russia a fortnight ago, jumped to a two-masted guitar on stage after Angelus Stateless Albacete, although the band said an encouraging start but knew little trace as they fell, one by one, the issues of the repertoire.
Accompanied by a very dynamic musicians whose guitar began to roar too low, the Californian band seemed to be disoriented in the first exchange. Poor and less powerful sound than would be expected for a group that showed decline dyes sometimes but that merely listening to their great classics and worth to be present.
Echoed the old familiar 'She Wolf', 'Peace Sells' and 'Holy wars' to fall sooner than expected 'Hangar 18' that linked always chanted "Tout le monde 'and a worn but not least expected' Symphony of destruction ', with which they parted.
There was no time for. Ridiculous time performance which simply shred a shortened version of his greatest hits belonging to his extensive repertoire. Neither more nor less. Part of the job to act in concert together in a room that was rather small for a band of this nature.
Heady, mind-blowing and aggressive were Slayer, as startling and hypnotic performance was a constant discharge of adrenaline. Direct Sorprenente. Metal end with conviction. Violent and sweeping, while stop, unable to breathe, the 'fathers of the genre' exploited the intensity of some of his classics such as 'Raining Blood', 'South of Heaven', 'Seasons in the abyss' that hell itself staged .
Not lacking 'World painted blood', his last studio album, and of course 'Angel of Death', with lyrics inspired by the experiments of Nazi doctor Josef Mengele, to wrap up the concert. Their sound nervous and chaotic guitar Espido powerful a devoted audience fascinated that he kept moving the neck to the rhythm of a series of thunderous songs that ran through the veins filled with emotion.
Slayer spent as a real steamroller without rest or respite with his controversial lyrics about God, war, death and devastation in the service of a dizzying music pounding double bass seasoned with extreme speed. And that was just a sip of his potential.

Not so. The artist said he was surprised yesterday to learn that the Brazilian Air Force planes fought the Germans in World War I (1939-45). And learned that Santos Dumont invented the wristwatch.
Dickinson, moreover, tried to be diplomatic about who is the father of aviation - the title given by the Brazilian Santos Dumont, in controversy with the flight of the Wright brothers in 1906, three years before.
"The aircraft was invented almost simultaneously by many people." Then, Wright praised and quoted a fellow countryman, George Cayley, who flew in a glider.
If you could win one of the aircraft, Dickinson also resort to the origins: choose a Spitfire, the fighter who scored a hit British in WWII.
On the short films lineup, Faces of Budokan deals with KISS’ three-night stand at Tokyo’s legendary Budokan venue in 2003. Focusing on the many Japanese fans who came to the show in full costume, the movie has been described as Heavy Metal Parking Lot meets the KISS Army. Another short film entry, Beyond the Thunder, focuses on music fans – specifically the legions of AC/DC fanatics around the world.
Other festival films include Todd Phillips’ 1994 film Hated: G.G. Allin and the Murder Junkies, the concert film Alive: Meshuggah and the lauded documentary Anvil! The Story of Anvil, which will be followed by a Q&A with director Sacha Gervasi and band member Steve “Lips” Kudlow.

The band started releasing studio albums in 1980, and they seem to get more popular with time. Their most recent studio album is 2010's The Final Frontier which went One in 29 countries. In the US The Final Frontier reached its peak position of Four by selling 63,000 units in America.
Their upcoming compilation album will highlight songs from their last eight studio albums, which follows 2008's compilation of their earlier work, the 1980-1990 Somewhere Back In Time album.
The announcement of From Fear To Eternity: The Best Of 1990-2010 comes on the heels of Iron Maiden's first ever a Grammy Award in the Best Metal Performance category for "El Dorado" from The Final Frontier.
Even though From Fear To Eternity will be a double-disc release, it will only be sold at the price of a single album. The album will also be available as a Digital Download Album and as a Limited Edition Triple Vinyl Picture Disc.

The Big Four tour for 2010 has concluded and was a huge success for the band. There was no drama, no missed shows, and no technical difficulties.
